just a wee reminder that showtime's united states of tara premieres tonight. if you are a toni collette fan, it's a must watch. the show centers around a woman who suffers from dissociative identity disorder (once known as multiple personality disorder) and explores all her varying personalities- from a teenager to a beer-swilling vietnam vet. no telling how good or bad it may be, but it's got steven spielberg as a creator/consulting producer and diablo cody (of juno fame) as a writer. more than that, it's a veritable showcase for collette's incredible talents- and that alone is reason enough to tune in.
• unites states of tara premieres tonight at 9pm on TMN's HBO channel.
apparently, the show itself can be a bit disjointed and uneven, but toni collette has been praised up, down and sideways for her performance(s). at least, we know that much about it...

indeed, it was a tad all over the place but pulled it together nicely by the last few minutes. so it shows promise. great job casting collette's kids, and with juno style smarter than you ever were at that age writing, they're a joy to watch. john corbett was surprisingly good as well, and toni is fabulous- no need to comment on that.
with an ensemble that works well that way, the show boils down to one about a family dealing with life. yes, a very different kind of family, but a family all the same. big love has indicated that viewers can open their minds to a lot when it comes to an uncommon family dynamic- so long as it's done right.
i can't help but feel viewers will grow to like some 'alters' more than others, just as the onscreen family has. so if the week to week storylines encompass the alters in a way that feels organic, then you have a show that works. we shall see...
