i finally tuned in to being erica, the new cbc
show getting lots of buzz. the hour long dramedy centers around erica
strange, a 30-something torontonian who is single and jobless and
struggling to understand where she went wrong. enter dr. tom, a
quasi-therapist who each week facilitates erica's going back in time to
have a second chance at something she regrets. sometimes this ends up
changing her present day life in just the way she hoped it might.
sometimes it doesn't.
either way...i like it. not hard to imagine, given i'm a 30-something singleton who is ironing out the creases in my own life. but really, erica's character is well written and believable, while surrounded by an incredibly well cast group of supporting players and guest actors (all courtesy of show creator/producer/writer, jana sinyor). being erica's greatest draw, however, is undeniably erin karpluk, who plays erica. karpluk brings such earnest and likeable energy to the role that she makes you want to see just how erica's life will develop, both past and present.
if you haven't yet tuned in, i encourage that you do. odds are that if you're in your 30s, you'll find something comforting and inspiring about the show. just be prepared to have a few flashbacks of your own with all the 90s inspired music...
• being erica airs monday nights at 9 pm on CBC, or check out episodes already aired online.
I hope this show does well. I don't normally watch television, but I enjoy this show a lot. Everyone has regrets in life. I like the way Erica gets some insight from past "mistakes", and I can identify with her - even though I'm not female.
